Our cocktail for the weekend is the iconic Corpse Reviver #2. This celebrated cocktail is a favorite the world over. No, really, it is a magnificent cocktail. It originated in the 1890s as one of a group of revivers - something to revive you the morning after. It should be exactly measured using only the ingredients specified. So, unless you have a great bar with a serious bartender nearby, make this one at home before you try it at your local watering hole. It is a great cocktail.
Corpse Reviver #2
1 oz gin (London Dry)
1 oz Cointreau (not Grand Marnier, not Triple Sec)
1 oz Lillet Blanc
1 oz lemon juice (measured)
3 drops (not dashes) absinthe
Shake briefly in an iced cocktail shaker and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a real Marasca cherry (Luxardo) and/or a lemon twist.
Sometimes, depending on where you live, Lillet Blanc can be tough to find. Sorry, but there isn’t a substitute here. Most of you should be able to find it.
And a song to accompany this weekend’s cocktail.
And our song for the weekend is But On the Other Hand, Baby, written in 1955 by Ray Charles and Percy Mayfield and originally recorded by Ray Charles and His Orchestra. Our version is by Hank Crawford. It was recorded and released in July 1962 as part of his third album, From the Heart.
